报告摘要:

Additive Manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is one of the most attractive keys enabling technologies in the framework of the so-called Industry 4.0, the new paradigm of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The aim of the talk is to highlight, through a series of industrial case studies, the strategic role that a systematic stochastic approach plays in the knowledge improvement of an Additive Manufacturing process based on Direct Metal Laser Sintering technology, where three-dimensional functional parts are produced starting from metal powder.

In particular, some of the most critical technological issues of this class of processes, from the mechanical characterization of additively manufactured parts to the enhancement of overall productivity thanks to the tuning of laser exposure parameters, have been addressed.

The experimental activities have been based on an accurate pre-design phase in order to reduce efforts, costs and time required to investigate these advanced and innovative processes.

The proposed case studies have been developed in partnership with MBDA company, a world-class leader in defense systems, within the WISCH (*) research project supervised by prof. Biagio Palumbo (Dept. of Industrial Engineering, University of Naples Federico II). These represent a positive example of synergic integration between statistical and technological competences.

主讲人简介:

Francesco Del Re received the M.Sc. degree in Aerospace and Astronautics Engineering in December 2014 from the University of Naples Federico II, with a dissertation entitled "A statistical approach to grinding burn reproduction based on Design of Experiments". The work was developed throughout a 6-month internship, under the supervision of Prof. Biagio Palumbo (Dept. of Industrial Engineering, University of Naples Federico II) and Prof. Matthias Putz (Fraunhofer IWU, Chemnitz University of Technology), at the Institute of Machine Tools and Production Processes (IWP) of Chemnitz University of Technology, in Germany, within the framework of the Fraunhofer Joint Laboratory "Interactive DEsign And Simulation (IDEAS)".

In 2015, he joined the Department of Industrial Engineering at University of Naples Federico II, where he still works today as a Research Assistant. Since 2016 he has been holding lectures on "Design of Experiments (DOE)" within the course of Statistics for Technology at the University of Naples Federico II. These lectures aim to speed up the transfer of statistical methods related to DOE at the industry level.

His major research interests and publications refer to the use of statistical methods for complex manufacturing processes improvement, focusing on powder bed fusion additive manufacturing for metals, laser drilling and resistance welding for automotive parts assembly. He collaborates with world-leading companies in the aerospace and automotive sectors, such as MBDA, Avio Aero (a GE Aviation business) and Centro Ricerche FIAT (CRF, an FCA business).
